BONJOUR AND BIENVENUE
Florence Attinger is the Principal Designer and Owner of UnDefined Decor, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was born in a small town outside of Bordeaux, where she lived and studied until moving to San Francisco after graduation. After a few semesters of study at the Art Institute of San Francisco followed by a brief stint in management consulting, Florence began managing design and home furnishings for a major retailer group. Florence followed this role with a career in interior design, both with her own firm and others. For the past 6 years Florence has been Lead Designer for Marin and San Francisco for a large design and staging firm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Florence launched her own interior design firm in 2003, which she has recently extended and rebranded into UnDefined Decor. Florence’s design sensibilities were shaped by a childhood spent wandering the halls and vineyards of her grandfather’s house in Cognac, by her mother’s exquisite sense of style carried forward from that same house, and by her father’s gift as an architect and artisan in transforming ideas from sketches on paper into living, breathing space.
Less concerned with perfection and sterile detail, Florence’s core design sensibilities create spaces that are both elegant and lived in, using materials that are both fashionable and durable. Florence believes that the most lasting design comes from deep engagement with clients, understanding who they are and what they like most, to build an environment that includes personal items they truly value –helping clients to inhabit a place that is uniquely “them.” Her design ethos is to create spaces with simplicity, functionality, and charm – mixing the old with the new to create an eclectic mix of pieces that appear to have been assembled over a lifetime.
“A designer's job is to tell the story. Sometimes we encounter similar stories, but the beauty is that the ending is always changing”. —Sarah Daniele
